Mark joined Airey & Coles in 2022 as a Graduate Structural Engineer. In the time he has been with us so far, Mark has been expanding his knowledge and experience in structural design, including steel, timber and concrete.

Before becoming a structural engineer Mark worked for thirty years in the security industry designing, installing and commissioning fire and security systems. It was while working for a national company and working on some large and complex projects that Mark found himself wondering how the buildings were built and constructed. This led him to consider a career change.

Mark attended an open day at the University of Plymouth and was highly motivated to study the Civil Engineering course. Over the next five years at University, with one year taken as a work placement, Mark graduated with a BEng in Civil Engineering.

Mark is continuing his studies with aspirations of becoming chartered while at Airey & Coles with the guidance and advice from the friendly team.

Outside of work Mark enjoys the outdoors including swimming, cycling, running long distances including marathons and ultra-marathons, or sometimes just a nice walk with his wife and two girls. They can often be found along the south west coastline or exploring Dartmoor.
